About Cañihua

Chenopodium pallidicaule Aellen (also known as cañahua) is a species of the goosefoot family (Amaranthaceae) related to the increasingly popular seed crop, quinoa (C. quinoa Willd). Gade (1970) noted that cañahua is a partially domesticated crop that provides food security to many subsistence farmers across the Andean Altiplano—the high plateau situated at 3500–4200 m above sea level between the western and eastern Andean Cordilleras of west‐central South America.
